My New Blog.

I was going to just change the name, but I’d rather start a fresh and turn over a new page with a new blog for this year. Some of the buttons need fixing up, but it’ll be fully working soon.

It’s a beautiful day! Hope you’re all out there enjoying it before winter comes.

I stumbled across this short video on how to stay creative today. after noticing that I am becoming increasingly distracted from my blog and all things design, choosing instead to focus my time trying to stop an ant colony forming in the garden. You think i’m joking but I have so much free time, spotting there developing mounds has become quite a pastime. Not very creative at all as you can imagine. But this short piece of animation captured my attention, was helpful and it looks pretty. Smiles all round.

That’s just what we all need right about now, half a week before we begin again!

Unpackaged.com

This is a simple, yet brilliant idea of helping cut down the amount of packaging waste we produce each year only to use once and throw into a landfill afterwards! The store sells a good range of products- http://beunpackaged.com/products/.

It’s something that more stores should take on board.

Exit through the gift shop

A new feature film by Banksy, Exit through the giftshop-

‘This is the inside story of Street Art - a brutal and revealing account of what happens when fame, money and vandalism collide. Exit Through the Gift Shop follows an eccentric shop-keeper turned amateur film-maker as he attempts to capture many of the world’s most infamous vandals on camera, only to have a British stencil artist named Banksy turn the camcorder back on its owner with wildly unexpected results’

An interesting way to define the value of design.

Recently I’ve been carrying out some research in order to prepare myself for next year!I’ve realised there’s a number of different routes I’ve had to take to find a point I’m happy and comfortable with and would like to discuss and it’s a bonus having access to my local university library with Sconul access during summer. Sticky notes are my new best friend, and without them I don’t know what I’d do at times! They are there reminding me of all sorts, and at times even to make that lovely well-deserved cup of green & lemon tea.

This puts our country to shame… but It’s good to see so many people getting together to begin cleaning this all up.
I can’t believe this has been happening, and that they have been destoying and burning cars, buildings, even people and looting approximately 60 seconds walk from my accommodation. It’s terrifying, I’m just relieved to be on summer break.
The figures are pretty horrific (Here’s a handful from the news):
Emergency calls to police on Monday night: 20,800 - compared to 5,400 normally. A400% increase
Emergency calls to the London Fire Brigade on Monday night: 2,169 - 15 times the normal amount
Places where extra police in London came from on Monday night: Thames Valley, Kent, Essex, Hampshire, Surrey, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Sussex
Number of police patrolling London tonight: 16,000
Minimum cost of the riots so far: £100m

Arrests so far by police force (since Saturday night): Metropolitan: 888 West Midlands: 330 Greater Manchester: 145 Nottinghamshire: 105 Merseyside: 74 Avon & Somerset: 24 Leicester: 14 Cambridge: 5 Gloucester: 3TOTAL: 1,588

This was a pleasant surprise as I had been admiring the work of the adverts for Absolut Vodka recently, and there in the library scanning through the shelves was an Absolut Book: The Absolut Vodka Advertising Story
